Empowering researchers for high-touch participant engagement

When an ambitious research initiative is preparing to scale, STEMpower Studio redesigns public-facing materials to build recruitment and retention

“The designs really invigorated the project! Her timeliness in responding to everything accelerated the other dependent parts of the work, and her thoughtfulness really made us reflect on aspects of our approach. … Julia is a brilliant, task-oriented, and talented person.”

Preparing to scale participant recruitment

“Our study was underway and running well. We were excited to see data from our first round of study participants, and preparing to recruit a much larger, more diverse sample.

We were in great need of a designer to create a range of recruitment and informational materials that were visually beautiful, accessible, and – most importantly – very thoughtful in providing accurate messaging.

In addition to promoting recruitment and retention, I wanted to take this opportunity to really elevate how we engage with our study participants – to help them feel welcomed, well-supported, and meaningfully informed by their participation.”

The importance of a content-informed design approach

“For this important project, I wanted a partner in the design and development process of the messaging.

Someone who understood the constraints and opportunities of the task.

I also needed someone who I could trust with the logistics of setting up all the infrastructure around our work. I knew Julia to be a thoughtful and brilliant person, so it was a no-brainer to partner with her.”

An invigorated, accelerated project

“Julia’s designs really invigorated the project!

It was amazing to see everything I’d hoped for with the redesign come to life, but not in a way I could have envisioned myself.

Partnering with her also benefited our work in other ways. Her timeliness in responding to everything accelerated the other dependent parts of the work, and her thoughtfulness really made us reflect on aspects of our approach.

Julia is a brilliant, task-oriented, and talented person. It is an honor and a privilege to get to work with her.”
